This year, when planning a fall foliage outing in New Hampshire and Maine, include a visit to some of the beautiful vineyards and orchards in our area. You can sample award-winning fruit and grape wines and ciders with distinctive styles. The following recommendations can also be found at Seacoast stores and restaurants.
Farnum Hill Ciders, Lebanon, N.H. Stroll and explore the apple orchards while picking your own crisp and juicy heirloom apples. Choose from six varieties of Farnum classic dry ciders that are lightly alcoholic and often sparkling, perfect complements to a variety of foods.
Zorvino Vineyards Peachez, Sandown, N.H. This is Zorvino’s signature wine, delicious any time of year. Made from local peaches, it’s a light fruit wine that is semi-dry with true peach flavors. Pairs perfectly with shrimp.
Hermit Woods Crabapple Wine, Sanbornton, N.H. Made from estate grown Dolgo heirloom crabapples, this wine is a bit sweet and spicy, delicious as an aperitif and with foie gras and duck entrees.
LaBelle Winery Granite State Red, Amherst, N.H. This unique New Hampshire wine is made from blueberries and the French hybrid red grape Marechal Foch. With aromas and flavors of ripe berries, plums, and black currants, it’s an excellent choice to serve with rich, spicy dishes.
Salmon Falls Winery Threesome, South Berwick, Maine A blend of three Bordeaux varietals grown in Paso Robles, this wine has ripe aromas of cherry and candied plum, along with spicy notes of mint, black olive, and coffee, leading to a chocolaty finish. Serve with meat or a creamy dessert.
Jewell Towne Vineyards Vidal Ice Wine, South Hampton, N.H. This very special dessert wine has aromas and flavors of honey and apricot. Enjoy with fruit pies, cheesecake, or on its own.
Flag Hill North River Port, Lee, N.H. Aged in oak, this classic port has traits of black licorice, almonds, and cloves. Sip at the end of an autumn day by the fire.
